Akatsuki no Yona - Completed

Okay, so this one, I completed this awhile back but it was incredible. I've already rewatched it a few times & I'm all caught up in the manga too. If I do that much, it has to be a good one. It's shoujo, but I think even most guys can't hate this. Right now, there are 24 episodes & a few OVAs. The genres are action, adventure, comedy, fantasy, & romance. I also read somewhere the manga labeled as tragedy. I'm not entirely sure why they only labeled the manga as tragedy, even though the anime has the same murder scene & stuff. Maybe it has to do with something that isn't even published yet. Well whatever. Akatsuki no Yona is kinda similar to Arslan Senki, so if you enjoyed that, you should try this. Though I think this show has a bit more of a lighter mood at times than Arslan Senki did. Here's a quick summary...

Princess Yona lives a sheltered & luxurious life in the castle of the seemingly peaceful Kingdom of Kouka. That was, until the betrayal of her beloved cousin Su-won ends in the king's murder & Yona's life being placed in mortal peril. After escaping with her childhood friend & bodyguard, Son Hak, the naïve princess soon discovers that Kouka is not how she envisioned it to be. With poverty, strife, and corruption running rampant, the idea of reclaiming the throne is more difficult & complex than imaginable. The story follows Princess Yona's adventures as she faces the harsh realities of her kingdom & her struggles just to stay alive. With only a mysterious legend to guide her, Yona must discover a way to restore Kouka's peace & ease the people's suffering while avoiding being discovered by the forces of the new king.

SPOILERS may exist beyond this point. Even if they are just minor ones, I still have to fairly put the warning up for some people. That is all.

To be honest, when I started this, I wasn't sure what it was going to be like. It sounded pretty interesting, but I was unsure how well it would go. However, I was certainly impressed starting from the very first episode. It kept me on edge & wondering all the time. I was surprised to find out it was shoujo. Looking back, I can understand it a bit, but... just... wow. Shoujo is definitely changing. There are a lot of characters, & they all have very interesting, diverse personalities. They're all a little weird in some way or another, which makes them funny & really easy to love. But they also are all amazing fighters. The battles these people get into are pretty cool. I love watching them fight. They made it look really good. The art & animation looked really good to me too, though I don't know much about that type of thing. The romance part of it is really slow, but that's for the better. It's a progress. A lot of romance would be kind of... eh... it just wouldn't go well with this type of show. This anime feels like it borderlines shoujo & shounen after all.

I think that they ended the anime too early though. It needs a second season desperately. I'm not kidding. The real adventures don't start until after the four dragons have gathered, but the anime ends shortly after they meet the fourth one. Like, they built it all up just to end it. But it seems to be rather popular, so with any luck, we will get that second season that's needed so badly. Well... then again... Looking at the way things are going in the manga, we'd probably need even more than just a second season because of the way it'll just keep building other things up. I don't think there is any good way to stop the anime without finishing the whole story because of the way it's all set up. Lol

I really don't know what more to say about this. It's a beautiful anime, full of adventure, awesome fights, questions, & laughs, that'll keep you on the edge of your seat begging for more all the time.
